Suicidal Erosion
Suicidal erosion is a descriptive term for the process in which a series of life events deteriorate the existing coping skills of an individual. The end result of this process is a situation in which the individual comes to believe that there is no way out of the pain caused by living other than to die.
It is important to note that humans are not born with coping skills. Coping skills are learned fro other people or are developed through trial and error. If a person lives in an environment where very few healthy coping skills are demonstrated by others, it will be much more difficult to develop positive coping skills.
