Involuntary Commitment

Step 1:

Contact the local mental health center that covers the geographic region of the alleged mentally ill person for a commitment screening.  You do not need an appointment!  The appropriate mental health center is determined by the zip code of the person needing treatment. Here is a list of Greenville County Mental Health Centers and the zip codes areas that they cover:

Only a mental health professional (i.e.- medical doctor) can decide whether or not the alleged mentally ill person meets certain criteria under South Carolina law for an involuntary commitment.  If so, the involuntary commitment application is completed at the mental health center.
